R.L. Stine

3.02 AVERAGE

It’s been a while since I’ve read an R.L Stine book, and I remember them being scarier/better than this was. There was definitely some suspense, but nothing really ended up happening?

As a teen, I read almost all of the Fear Street books (and owned most of them as well). When I found that Stine had started writing the series again, I got a bit excited (even as an adult). This book was rather tame compared to some of the others that I have read in the past. And actually, kind of redundant, because he has done the horror party a few times before. Kind of disappointed.

This was a decent reboot to Fear Street. It didn't give me the everlasting terror of 99 Fear Street, but it was good.

Pure nostalgia is what caused me to pick this up. I guess I didn't recall Stine's writing style!

My shelves were lined with his books as a kid. This book though plays into every bad horror movie/plot possible and then the characters have zero depth.

It's definitely a quick easy read, but expect to be irritated as he tries to sound relevant with mentioning World of Warcraft, Facebook and other social media. Much of this book felt forced and made me wish I had left my love for his books back as I remembered them.

I enjoyed the beginning of the book more than the end. I just thought there would be more of a supernatural element to the story than thriller like.
