I just deleted this from my books on accident and that makes me sad :( so sad I'm going to go listen to One Step Up because that's the saddest Bruce Springsteen song.

I’ve often enjoyed and always admired Bruce Springsteen, so it was easy to give myself over to Born to Run’s blue-collar romanticism, homespun philosophizing, and tent revival lyricism.

What a gift to Springsteen fans. Bruce puts his rough-and-tumble (and pristine) poetry on full display with a story that's equal parts exhilarating and emotional. Family, religion, place—those are the ties that bind.

An excellent read that was read by the Boss himself. Bruce's imagery is excellent as he tells his story of the E Street coming to be and his time with his earlier bands in New Jersey. It's a long audiobook for sure, but one that is definitely worth the listen.

(makes fangirl flailing arm motions instead of articulating sentences)

(recovers)

Now THIS is how you write a celebrity memoir.

He gave the reader a picture of a realistic life. I always wondered about his short first marriage...and he devoted a chapter to it and was very honest about his part.
I loved reading about his devotion to Patti and how he credits her for teaching him to love and be loved by her and his role as a father.

What a fun read this was! I learned a lot about Bruce Springsteen that I did not know.

I was pleased to learn that Bruce is a sensitive and thoughtful artist-- not just the rock and roll hit grubber I think we often assume that rock stars may be. Bruce is the real deal, the logical successor to Woody Guthrie. Also, Bruce counts Flannery O'Connor among his heros....sigh, me too.

Also, Bruce has been in therapy and talks about it quite a bit. His dad was an undiagnosed paranoid schizophrenic-- what a sad and stressful childhood Bruce had trying to make sense of his father's quite seething.

I loved hearing about his courtship with Patti Scialfa-- she is also a formidable singer-songwriter. I love her solo albums. And Bruce is a proud and glowing papa-- I also enjoyed the love and tenderness in his voice when he talks about the different personalities of his children.

The best part of Bruce's book was his voice-- he is honest about who he is and how he operates. I appreciate the authenticity that is the artist Bruce Springsteen.
