This was silly and sweet and I really do love Stephanie Archer’s writing! She has an incredible talent for describing facial expressions and mannerisms that make the characters and their interactions just feel so genuine.

I listened to the audio and unfortunately, the male narrator’s voice was kinda cringing me out by the end… he just kept saying certain words the exact same way even when they would be said in different contexts and the dirty talk just sounded condescending sometimes? Idk

My one critique of Pippa’s character would be that she was described as this funny, charismatic, voice-of-an-angel, knockout of a woman and yet her entire self-worth was determined by the shitty behaviour of her ex who essentially brainwashed her into thinking she was worthless. I actually did understand this part of her character since she had been with her ex since she was 16 years old and teen girls have notoriously low self-esteem, so when she was finally free of him after 8 years together, I figured we would get to see her fall back in love with music and gain some confidence in herself. I wanted to see her realize how horribly she was mistreated, learn to stick up for herself, and know that she would never tolerate that kind of disrespect from anyone in her life again. Then Jamie comes along and he starts telling Pippa how great she is, how pretty, how talented, how special… and Pippa just latches on to the validation and starts doing things “for Jamie”. Like she finally picks her guitar back up after months without playing it “for Jamie”, she sings in front of people “for Jamie”, she starts writing songs again “for Jamie”…. And something about it just didn’t sit right with me. Basically, we’re all just lucky that Jamie turned out to be this wonderful guy because if this were real life, Pippa would have learned nothing or gained any confidence in herself to be able to withstand another romantic rejection or protect herself against another abusive situation by knowing how she deserves to be treated.
But honestly, I know this book is not meant to be that deep and this is just spicy escapism!

Both MCs were way too hung up on their exes for my comfort, though

I really liked thisss - absolutely binged it and while I did feel like the end/epilogue was a bit longer than necessary I enjoyed reading it and seeing the happy ending :)

Sport Romance • high school crush  •

Nothing memorable and a tad too long (unnecessarily) again. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it and felt like a similar read to other books I’ve read over the years. I might need to a little pause from sport / hockey romances.

Oh and the MMC gave me the ick but that could have been due to the narrator (sorry :(  …   )
