I don’t recommend this book unless you want your heart to break over and over again but it is so good.
Backman has become one of my favorite authors. I smiled, I cried, I felt connected to the characters. I love Benji, Maya, Ana and he brings you closer to others too. The stories within the story grab your attention and make you feel like you’re there in the forest or you are reminded of someone or some event in your life that was very similar.
My only gripe… it was way too long!!! There were parts that weren’t 100% necessary so it didn’t have to be close to 700 pages.
Several quotes stuck out at me but some might give away too much so I’ll leave the review with this…
Would he be proud of me? Have I lived a worthy life? Been a good enough person?

This book is a masterpiece. I felt every emotion throughout the story, and I cried like a baby for the last 25 pages. These characters will always have a place in my heart - mostly Benji, of course. This is the best book of the trilogy and I am so sad I will never read it for the first time again. 100 stars.

The Winners is the third and final book of the Beartown series, written by my absolute favorite author, the Swedish Fredrick Backman. As in the previous 2 books, and as is his signature, this book has so many insights into human emotions that we find ourselves thinking he has access to our minds and hearts. And the sense of community always oh so very present. I always marvel at his writing and sensitivity. 5 stars. Always ❤️

This series destroyed me.
I love it so much.
I love it so much.
When I finished reading The Winners, I closed my eyes, took a long deep breath as I hugged the book tightly into my chest and cried... and cried hard.
I didn't expect to respond this way, not even when I was reading the 2nd to last page. This wasn't necessarily for The Winners, but rather for the whole trilogy, for the bear from Beartown, for Beartown as a whole. I don't know why I am surprised. I did, afterall, have a comparable response after reading A Man Called Ove. If Backman isn't already my favorite author, he certainly ranks high in my top 5. But he probably is the winner.
I recommend this trilogy with caution because it makes you feel so much, even those emotions that have been dormant for so long, you didn't know they were still there.
