This series changed my brain chemistry. What an honest reflection of society, the culture of silence, and our desire to be seen. This should be on everyone’s TBR list!
This was hard to rate, I give it a solid 3 because the last couple hundred pages really drew me in and made me feel everything. He’s an amazing writer and I love the town he created and the way he tells his stories, but this book was too long and repetitive in the first couple hundred pages for me to rate it as high as his others.

This book NEEDED an editor: it is very repetitive, with enough foreshadowing that a 3 year old would get it. But damn, the characters are fabulous, and I listened the 16+ hours to find out what happened to them.
This was a nice wrap up of the Beartown stories, even if it has many sad moments. It was also nice to see these characters again ans see what they’re up to. Backman always makes me laugh with lines like ‘hockey is this town’s toilet paper.’
