This book NEEDED an editor: it is very repetitive, with enough foreshadowing that a 3 year old would get it. But damn, the characters are fabulous, and I listened the 16+ hours to find out what happened to them.

This was a nice wrap up of the Beartown stories, even if it has many sad moments. It was also nice to see these characters again ans see what they’re up to. Backman always makes me laugh with lines like ‘hockey is this town’s toilet paper.’

I love this series with my whole heart, and this book was no exception. Backman writes incredibly complex characters. There truly are no villains in his books because of the layers he adds to every last person. Like the others, the plot will keep you guessing at times and the tears will flow at others. This one also had some beautiful descriptions of friendship that made me nostalgic for those days of early adulthood where, for a moment or two, things feel magical and uncomplicated and beautiful.

Probably my least favorite of the Beartown series although I did enjoy it. 650+ pages was too much though!

I had a hard time with this story. I grew up in a rural area where hockey was king and so I could relate to the tenor of the story. But I found the book dragged, jumped around and I felt like my heart strings were being played more for the sake of the emotion than the good of the story. Too many messages.
