5 stars//Physical Book + Kindle Book//This book broke my heart into a million pieces and I'm so so sad the series is over.
There are few other book series that I've read where I've fallen in love with the characters like I have with the people of Beartown. (And, let's be real, even Hed, by the end of this series.) There were several soul-crushing revelations throughout the story, but none as devastating as the finale. It's been a long time since I've loved a book so much and also simultaneously was so pissed off at it.
Benjamin Ovich will go down as one of my favorite book characters forevermore; I want a spinoff book about Maya as an adult and her adventures touring the world; and Fredrik Backman knows how to write a damn book.

I’ll be honest, when I heard there was another Beartown story, I was a bit skeptical. I did love the first two books, but does this town really have more to give us? The author takes us into small forest towns in Sweden and somehow big city people on the other side of an ocean can relate and reflect and rejoice and be reduced to a messy puddle when we finish the final the chapters. This book is about a couple of hockey towns and their inhabitants, yes. But it’s also about heartache and parenting and commitments and belonging and community and violence and sacrifice and moments and lifetimes and love.
It’s hard to rate this 3 stars but it was just too long and repetitive, it could have been 1/3 as long and been enough.

"What is life, other than moments? What is laughter,
other than a small victory over sorrow? A single
moment, just one, when everything inside us isn't
broken."
Literally ripped out my heart and served it to me on a platter. Fredrik Backman, I hate you and I love you. Thank you for your stories.
