"What is life, other than moments? What is laughter,
other than a small victory over sorrow? A single
moment, just one, when everything inside us isn't
broken."

Literally ripped out my heart and served it to me on a platter. Fredrik Backman, I hate you and I love you. Thank you for your stories.

So, so good.

I will reiterate: Fredrik Backman’s writing never ceases to be extraordinarily simple and simply extraordinary.

I am sitting in a puddle of my own tears. The Beartown series is one of my all time favorite series. Highly highly recommend always.

I finally finished this huge tome. Despite moments of brilliance where I found traces Backman's sensitive storytelling, I found the different threads in this novel cumbersome. I read on because I was invested in the characters that Backman introduced in Beartown. I did not care for the new characters that he introduced in this novel, the politics, or the hooligans, or the unnecessary villain and tragedy. There was no need for that. I liked the last few pages though. I liked how the story ended.

I may not have loved every storyline in this one and I may not have been on board with every choice the author made, but no one can make me sob like he can. Damn you, Fredrik Backman!
