The second volume mainly focuses on contextually mundane high school shenanigans before becoming a major group fight against the newly introduced main villains. Select characters get time to shine while others remain in the background and suffer.
Some characters, like Tenya Ida, deserve the new spotlight.
Others do not. If you have already read this or seen the show, you know who I am talking about.
The character development for Deku slows to a crawl and he does not accomplish much of anything besides solidifying his already established rivalry with Bakugo. The only difference is Deku is at least acknowledging that they are rivals now, and it's not all Bakugo's delusions.
The relationship between the two is confusing and rather stupid.
Deku's view of Bakugo is unmistakably favorable despite the boy having ruthlessly bullied him for years.
Deku treating this guy with any amount of idolization is pathetic.
And Bakugo, of course, is out of his mind. I need not explain.
The rest of Class 1-A has some promise, though certain students are inherently less interesting than others. Of the lot, Tenya gets the most focus this time and he is a very likeable character. The only character who is all that likeable so far. Tsuyu is also given a presence but while she seems fine enough, she doesn't make herself stand out with the time she has.
Then there is Mineta. Like most people with a sense of taste, I hate Mineta.
What shocks me is that the author implies on one page that Mineta represents them.
What a sad implication to relate to the most loathed character in the whole series.
It isn't nearly as bad as the first volume, but it's still bad. The writing is too poor to support this colorful cast and their potential is wasted.

Tons of training, can I punch Bakugo in his nuts because LORD that is one spoiled/ego boy hate how he reacts and acts. Disgusting to use your power/strength on someone. Fight villains. Fight honest. Fuck off. But I loved seeing the training, loved learning more about the other characters, see some school stuff, I hope All Might trains Deku a bit more because DANG that kid sees the nurse a lot more than is natural. XD
Also villains! Whoop! I remember that arc from the anime and it was awesome to see it as manga.
