so cute! definitely feels like a classic norse myth
This is a very pleasantly written retelling of a Norse myth. Quick, fun, and cozy.
CC: typical Norse mythology shenanigans, drunkenness, death of a father, unkind stepfather

(A very gentle take on the rough Norse gods. Loved it.)

really short, very fairytale like, a nice goodnight story.
Odd's father has passed away and Odd's life has continuously gotten worse. His stepfather doesn't appreciate him, he is like an outcast in his own house, and he crippled his leg trying to be the man of the house. Everything is going to change for Odd, though, because he has a good heart.
One afternoon in the woods, Odd follows a fox to a trapped bear and saves him showing bravery and courage. He learns that the fox, bear and an eagle are really a transformed Norse gods under the spell of a Frost Giant. Odd is determined to help the gods overcome the Frost Giants.
I love the Neil Gaiman has taken a Norse myth to share with us. It is a unique story which shares a magical journey that shows that the underdog can overcome. To top it off, Gaiman's lyrical, yet simplistic style makes the book an instant classic.

Such beautiful illustrations and an interesting story set in the Norse mythology world. Love Odd as a character and I really enjoy getting a glimpse of the frost giants unlike any so far. Just a gem of the book and a beautiful edition
What a fun, engaging, quick, wonderful read this is. Anyone who likes Viking myth and stories must read this one. Odd is a delightful main character. I loved his perseverance, wit, and heart. And his smile. Gaiman describes it so perfectly you can see it clear in your head every time he bestows it on someone. I also loved the banter between the bear, fox, and eagle. Worked really well given who they actually were. Just really well done from start to finish.
Pretty good. Certainly cute and entertaining, in a “book written for young readers” kind of way. The story didn’t have an incredible amount of depth, but did present a few ideas about the natures of gods and ice and rainbows, and some of the dialogue was funny.
