A lovely broadening of the world of Blood Grace. I so loved getting to meet and know more of the Hesperine characters! Felt like not much plot-wise happened, but the stage has definitely been set.

Definitely better paced than the first book, more interesting. I think it was thankfully a case of just too much world to build the first book, because the politics and love story are taking way better shape here. I’m interested in continuing the series for now for sure. I do hope we get to see a lot of more of Mak & Lyros and the other Hesperines. I’m very intrigued by these new mages and all their mystery and danger. Still going to play this series by ear for now but I’m more into it after this one. Also still can’t stand the made up body part words though - I fear there’s nothing we can do about that.

This book took me awhile to get into because of the politics and Lio suffering to the point where reading it felt like a drag. Once they get back together, things pick up but the first half of the book feels very slow and some things could've been cut, combined, or shortened to make it flow a little better.

Still, I love Cassia and Lio. Watching Lio get a little bit protective and murderous against those who'd harm Cassia was done in a way that it was endearing and not cringe, which is a fine line!

However the foot thing gave me a bit of the ick.

If you want fast-paced fantasy, this will probably be too slow for you. I'm not a huge fan of that classic fantasy feel, but I'm fully invested and the plot is good! So I'm going to continue the series, and I'm excited to see where this goes!
