This book bears very little resemblance to the show, and I loved it. It's a little bit hard to follow, and there are a lot of minor characters that feel like they either don't make much of a difference to the plot or will never be important again, but the world expansion is really satisfying, and there's lots of character growth that feels earned and interesting. I appreciated how much the book highlighted that although the power players may have thought the war was over, the commonfolk knew better. This series continues to be brutal (although this is definitely not as dark of a book as the third book), and I continue to enjoy it immensely!

Truly fantastic addition to a fantastic series, on my third reread and never gets boring. Arianne, Darkstar and the Sand Snakes are some of my favourite characters.

I love the mixing of storylines in this novel. Also I always forget how much I hate Cersei

While I’ve heard many talk about this book as the one with “all the boring characters”—as opposed to A Dance with Dragons that is told from the perspectives of Daenerys, Jon, Tyrion, etc.—I think this was an ingenious way to divide up the story. We also got some peaks into characters we’d never met before, including minor characters you wouldn’t expect to hear from. While we are wondering what other character’s are up to, our understanding of Westeros is being expanded in a way that I found very helpful.
