A super quick, easy read. I thought the premise was definitely interesting, but the timeline was like lightning fast and overall it didn’t have a whole lot of substance. With the way it ended, I’m not sure I understand how there are two more books in the series… but I guess I’ll just have to read and find out. lol.

This is one of those books I don't want to like (but do I) and I want to recommend... but then fear what my friend thinks about me as they wade into the first 100 pages.
Here's why: There is a lot of graphic adult content at the beginning. Deanna works as a "cam girl" (she has sex with herself on camera, people pay to watch) and she describes a good bit of it in detail. (Welcome back, 50 Shades).
BUT this aspect whips around in the end into two terrifically awesome "women's lib" moments and by the end of the book I was giving the author a standing ovation... A.R. Toree forces the reader to change their mind about any negative stereotype they have about sex workers. Brillant.
(I'm not into erotica or traditional romance, so I spent the first part of this book stopping every few minutes to think "WTF am I reading?" and “Whyyy am I reading this?” ... only to turn the page and keep on going... it's worth pushing through).
Next! There is SO MUCH going on with this story and that would usually be something I criticized, but it worked here.
Deanna is locked up in her apartment (a prisoner by her own choice) because she has a strong bloodthirst. She wants to kill but doesn't want to take a life. It's the only solution she can think of. "Camming" is how she supports herself while being a recluse.
Life is moving along just fine until one client starts to creep her out. Deanna suspects he's responsible for kidnapping a little girl and realizes she might just have a way to use her calling for good (calling all Dexter fans!)
While this is happening, there is a mystery story surrounding Deanna's upbringing which had quite the little twist! ANNND Because Deanna is a young thang, she's also struggling in love... she meets a guy but she can't trust herself not to hurt him...
It's the most potluck book ever... murder, mystery, erotica, YA, coming-of-age, vigilante, and more.
Fans of Dexter or The Girl with All the Gifts will like this book. I've just learned (logging the book here) it's a series and I'm definitely going to consider it.
