The Girl in 6E

3.66 AVERAGE

dark fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Loveable characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

An intriguing premise with a strong central character, but the pacing felt uneven. Deanna’s internal monologues were insightful at times but occasionally detracted from the main narrative. Overall, an engaging read that kept me hooked despite its flaws.

"That's the reason I stay away from people. Because I want to kill."
"No one is normal. Everyone is just pretending to be normal."
"That part is kind of fuzzy, because then I went all Xena Warrior Princess on his ass."
"Others letting you down is ice cream and cookies compared with the rejection of your own soul. I don't know what is sadder, expecting myself to fail or being too scared to dream of success."
"Hope is dangerous. Hope can be the loose thread that pulls apart your sanity."

I'm surprised by how much I liked this. I was intrigued but wasn't totally on board with the premise when I started it, but boy did it hook me. It gripped me and disturbed me from the very beginning.
Frankly, the glimpse into camming was really interesting and something I've never even thought of before. Although considering how many fetishes this book discusses that I've never even heard of, I guess it's no surprise that camming has never been on my radar.
This book is not a romance, it is a thriller with lots of sex. Deanna is surprisingly likeable and I was oddly touched by her sympathetic interactions with her pathetic clients.
This book was well written, but certainly had its flaws. I hope in the next book Deanna's homicidal tendencies will be explored more and the thriller aspect more developed. The ending here was a bit too easy for me. Jeremy was a totally superfluous character, and so was the "romance" in this book. I would not miss him if he vanished from the pages.
All in all, an unexpected and completely strange delight.

I would like to preface this with: I don’t think this is a good book. I don’t think this book has amazing literary merit and some character actions I found completely unrealistic or campy. However, I had so much fun with it. I read this book in 24 hours which I haven’t done in what feels like forever. It might have felt unrealistic at times but no matter what I wanted to keep turning the pages to find out what would happen. I don’t think I will be returning to the series unless I need something to pull me out of a reading slump but I enjoyed this as a stand-alone regardless.

*3.5* Great, fast pace read! Currently in a book slump and this book helped! Very mysterious and suspenseful. I love Deanna she was confident, crazy, smart, and independent. I can't wait to read the second book.
dark mysterious tense fast-paced

This was interesting but also very dark, explicit, and I almost DNF’d at the beginning due to the pedophilia plot line. But I looked up reviews which told me this is about a wannabe killer (FMC, also a cam girl) who hunts down said pedo to kill him/save his victim, then I stuck with it.

CW: explicit sexual content and a lot of it, specifically in the chat room/cyber sex realm; perversions and kinks; obsessive thoughts of murder and gore; pedophillia; murder; dub-con

I have no words. I have changed my rating about 6 times. This book took me over and disturbed me. It scared me and intrigued me and I can't tell if it scarred me. Such a different premise and I loved the writing style. I read this in less than a day and just can't decide what I think. It's definitely an amazing book and worth every second I spent reading it. It was suspenseful and terrifying and hot and informative. I feel like I learned about a whole other world. So well done!

wow

I was not sure what I was getting because this was a book of the month book for a group. not totally disappointed but not sure I would have read it otherwise. the book keeps going from past to present with no indication, occasionally it would change to italics when Deanna was remembering. however there are occasions when it is present but out of order present. one example Annie's disappearance is mentioned and then the next chapter she is home and it mentions that she is 6 hours away from going missing.

overall the book is entertaining.

I liked it. Not a mindblowing 5 star read but pretty good. It’s better as an audiobook, which is rare for me to say. It pissed me off that there are different editions of the book that are completely different and I could only find the audiobook that had the extended edition. Didn’t do too much research into it when I first read it, but it’s raunchy with a decent plot. Good to read if you’re bored, a solid 3/5.
