Arguably even better than The Cuckoo's Calling. Less setup means more time getting into the meat of the story. Rowling did a superb job of dropping all the clues throughout the book, as inconsequential bits of information, but in the end, they were all there, the ducks in a row.
Excellent read, and one of the fastest reads I've managed with any book.
Highly recommended.

Thoughts: I feel like I might have read most of this once? Maybe? It's definitely twisty and I didn't quite have who did it. I'll be curious what happens with Robin and Matthew in the next book. No way they get married 😂

This mystery was a little hard to follow. I didnt quite understand how he deducted who the killer was but it was a fun ride anyway.
Moves very slowly with too many subplots.
Galbraith/Rowling have some serious pacing issues to work on. There isn't enough to keep the reader engaged or guessing, and there is a lot of unnecessary repetition. In a word: barf
Πολύ καλό! Και δεν βρήκα το δολοφόνο...

What a fun book! It sucked me in. The detective and his assistant have come alive as real people--I look forward to seeing them grow together as a team and to learning more of their own secrets. In the first Cormoran Strike novel, I had no idea who the villain was until the end. In this book, I figured it out early and kept reading excitedly until the "big reveal" to have my suspicions confirmed. The novel-within-a-novel is laugh-out-loud awful.
After being on the fence reading Galbraith's first Cormoran Strike book, I gave the second a shot in hopes to find more depth to the characters and higher stakes. Unfortunately, it was more of the same. It's impossible to read a British crime mystery I won't enjoy; however, I felt that both the plot and characters were relatively flat.
I feel pretty indifferent to both CS and Robin. At least CS has a unique story, but Robin is an overplayed woman having something to prove to herself and narrow-minded husband. Additionally, *SPOILER* the outcome of the crime felt unbelievable and disappointing. After building up some stakes of an unknown psychopath murderer on the loose, we find out that it's the wheezing 60+ something literary agent. We are supposed to believe she not only can carve and torture her long-adorned client but also that her motive was because SHE LOANED HIM MONEY!? Additionally, the climax is that Robin attempts to drive her to the police station where she gets almost choked out from the older woman.
I will doubt JK's talent, but I'm disappointed in the fact she still hasn't developed or introduced the lovable characters from HP. I'm sure I'll read the third book sometime in the future, but think this series is nothing special.
