Things that I have realized and or learned while reading this:
1. I need a hare.
2. Do not trifle with hares. Hares are quite sassy and will make you pay for headless petting by pooping in your soup.
3. Cages come in all sizes, and most are of our own making.
4. Finland has bitten me and I must go wander there.
5. Bears are bears. Do not go looking for them. They'll remember you and just to anger you will take a nip out of you.
6. Make sure you're divorced before getting engaged. It just makes things simpler.
7. Cow births are traumatic. Jenny Lawson introduced me to that, and The Year of the Hare just nailed that point home. Nope. I do not need a pregnant cow ever on my dream farm.
8. Hares are magical beings.

Noe av det verste jeg har lest.
Skal være "ellevilt", men er bare kjedelig.
Irriterende dårlig skrevet.

The writing of the story felt light and it caught me right from the very start. Each chapter new adventures to read until the very last page.

The journalist Vatanen leaves his wife, his work and the life he has lived till now. He has hit a hare with his car, and he wants to nurse the animal. What follows are 20 adventures, loosely connected, with the hare in the man's pocket. That's about it. There's little on the psychological development of the main character and why he makes his radical choice. The main message seems to be: modern life is rubbish, nature is the source of all wisdom (so seventies!). The stories are very descriptive and make you think this rather is a childrens book.

Maybe I just don't get the Finnish.
