Love this collection. The highs don’t reach the heights of Skeleton Crew, but it’s about as good as any collection of short stories out there. Riding the Bullet hit harder than I remembered - it really should have closed things out, but blame the luck[ey quarter] that chose the order…

I really liked some of the stories in this: Autopsy Room 4, 1408, and Riding the Bullet especially. I also really liked The Man in the Black Suit and the Death of Jack Hamilton.I skipped the Dark Tower novella in the middle since I haven’t taken my first trip to the tower yet. I didn’t not love In The Deathroom, All that You Love Will Be Carried Away, or a lot of the last half of the book.
But I’m so glad I got to read 1408 finally. I think that was the first horror movie I ever watched and it has stuck with me since. The story was just as creepy.

Five good stories, but didn't realize i had the 5 story version instead of the 14 story version till I was already into it.
This collection starts of strong with the ridiculous but gripping story Autopsy Room Four, but the rest of the collection quickly slides into mediocrity, rarely rising above it.
I was surprised when I found out that award winning stories like Riding The Bullet and 1408 turned out to be repetitive and mundane. King obviously wanted to subvert typical ghost story tropes with these stories, but when he did so he robbed them of any teeth or any reason to be interesting.
The one standout in the middle of the collection is The Three Sisters of Eluria, which was fantastic. It is a Dark Tower story, so I may be biased, as I'll devour anything from that universe, but it was by far the best story in the whole collection. The language, the magic, the history - the world-building of Mid-World is on another level. King really should stick to expanding the Dark Tower universe.
