Poor writing: very simple one sentence to describe an action and then the rest is just dialogues. There were so many repetitions as well (this is why editors exist). Poor character work: the two main characters are so bland, no depth whatsoever, no development, we know almost nothing about them. They sort of didn't feel human. As for the mysteries, we never see the characters actually solving them, we only see the end results.
There was so much potential but this was a disappointment.
Graphic: Alcohol, Misogyny, Death, Terminal illness, and Dementia

The book have things in common with Before the Coffee gets Cold in that each chapter follows the same formula and follows a new character. Someone arrives at the Kamogawa Diner in hope of having a dish from their past recreated and their reasons for wanting it. Skip forward in time and follow them as they taste the result and an explanation from the Chef/Detective of how he did it.
Stories that follow a formula like this one is not for everyone but it works for me. I really recomend it if you like cooking and/or Before the Coffee gets Cold.
Also, unlike Before the Coffee gets Cold, the cat on the cover on this one is actually in the book
Moderate: Death of parent and Dementia
Minor: Terminal illness
