(3.5?) I debated a LOT about what to give this before I finally settled on four stars because it was very cute. My only real issue were the pop culture references, by the end of the book I felt like I was going to scream if I heard ONE more Hamilton reference (and this coming from a hamilton fan). But it was good and the characters were cute and Noah Galvin reading the audiobook was very nice so overall this book was a good experience.

I didn’t think I’d finish this in one day, but I surprised myself.
This is the first book read in 2023 and it was ok.

OMG! I loved this book so much! I loved reading these two people find the world in each other and create a beautiful relationship. I stayed up WAY past my bed time to find out how their journey ended. The authors I wisely left it open for the reader to interpret, so here's my take (as I posted on my Twitter): Team Benturo (I did that too) get married, have babies, and grow old together and then tell their meet cute story on the front stoop/porch to grands or anyone else thst will listen because the love is STRONG in this pairing. The End.
Seriously though, it was a truly delightful read. I was fully invested in both characters and felt like a part of their complex and weirdly wonderful friends circle (even though I'm way too old to be) by the time I was done reading it.
I'll be recommending this one at work (readers advisory ftw) and to anyone that will let me talk it up.

DNF - 1.5/5 stars to what I did read of it. Stopped at pg. 295.
I really wanted to like this one, I truly did. If you read this, what I am going to guess is a big rant, you deserve a sticker.
I love a good YA book, do not get me wrong, but this one is just Too Much. It's packed FULL of references to Harry Potter (at least 19 different times from when I started counting) and musicals. It feels as if the authors are trying to "connect with the youths" and completely missed the mark. It landed on being cringey and unreadable. If you can't write a relatable teenager? Don't write teenagers. New Adult exists. or even just regular fiction. I was a teenager at the time this was written, I would've laughed at their idea of what being a teenager is if I had read it then.
My major problem with this book though, and why I couldn't bear to finish it, is the dynamic between Ben and Arthur. Do they even actually like each other? Sure, they had a "meet cute" or whatever but it truly feels like they're dating because they both just happen to be gay. They have like 0 chemistry and move WAY too fast. One page I'm reading them argue about petty BS and the next they were trying to have sex? YOU'VE KNOWN EACH OTHER FOR 2 WEEKS! I can't bear to read this any longer so I have decided to just move on. Life is too short to be reading books you don't enjoy.

I wanted to root for them, but couldn't feel their voices. This is a cute love at first sight story with a lot of the author's heart in it. Talking to a high school friend about it helped me feel see that it can be OK to put a book down.

For the most of the book I really loved it, it was between 4.5-5 stars. The reasons I end on 3½ are that, to me, some of the drama felt too forced, and some of their getting back seemed to easy. Also, the ending. It wasn't a bad ending, but it wasn't an ending anyone hoped for.
On the plus side, it was laugh-out-loud funny and it was deeply moving, and Arthur and Ben (and their friends) are all really sweet.
And it really shows how difficult it can be to be together, even if you both want it, because we all carry insecurities and things from our past that hold us back, no matter what age we have.
Not 100% satisfied, but I will definitely recommend it.
