It was a good book. I didn’t “love it” it had some moments when you could tell it was written, a good while ago.
Although these moments were not common and I really didn’t find myself cringing at misogyny hardly at all.
Overall I would recommend it as an interesting thought experiment book.

I really liked the book, but I can't help but prefer that the author give more clues of what kind of world the characters were living in. I'm happy to use my imagination, but my mind just osscilated between aliens or nuclear war, and I know there's a better narrative out there...

This was great- a modern classics that asks some really important questions about womanhood, survival, and humanity.
I did find that the back half of the book did become pretty repetitive and did drag a bit, but overall this was wonderful.

My method for picking out books lately has been a lot of throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks. I pickup random new releases as I am processing them at work, and the other tkmesi just scroll Libby to see what is available and grab what I've heard is a good read. I have since this older, translated piece if fiction making the rounds on some Booktubers I watch and so when I saw it was on Libby, relatively short and I had a longer drive ahead of me I decided to check it out. In this we follow and unnamed female character as she is living with 40 other women in a underground bunker with around-the-clock guards who refuse to tell them anything. None of the women know why they are here or what exactly caused the events that led to them being captured and held in the bunker. Our narrator is younger than most the women and has never know a world other than the bunker, making her a loner in a group that has nobody but themselves. The short book is told as a recollection of the narrator over the decades of her life; starting in the bunker and going on from a point where the women make it out and then have to learn to live and navigate in a world they aren't even completely sure is Earth. It can be long and tedious and not necessarily action-packed, but it is deep and thoughtful and harrowing. To sit with the narrator and experience the life of these women and their journey and what it says about the human condition is very impacting and moving. I want to reread this physically in the future too so I can spend more time in this story and what it has to say.
