I have mixed opinions on this one. For a good majority of this book I was immersed in the unique world and systems in place. However, I felt like it was a little bit too long. I found myself skim reading parts because I felt like it was dragging and just wanted to get back to the action.
I did like the characters but I felt like maybe there were a few too many, at points I was confused about who was who and their roles within the story. It took a lot to understand who was who and keep track of what each character was up too. I'm not sure that is a criticism of the book or just my lack of experience with the specific genre.
Also, what is it with fantasy authors making up their own swear words? It is a serious dislike of mine within a book and it really grates on me. Just use a swear word we all use please!

Dang! Starting the year off strong with this one. I have no idea how this made it to my TBR but found it on a random trip to the library. Got sucked right in to the heist story but stayed for the world building and nuanced character development and complex but well-executed magic system. So many twists and turns, some that really caught me by surprise. I thought they dealt deftly with some pretty heavy topics. Also give a thumbs up to a solid setup of the next book without leaving this one on an unsatisfying cliffhanger. Now I just need to track down the second one!
