The Rabbit Girls was my pick from Amazon's August First Reads. As few other reviewers have already stated, I found the pace of the book slow at the start. Partway through, the events began coming together, and I became much more invested in the story. I think this book succeeds at drawing emotional reactions, though I wish that some of the plot devices were slightly more subtle and that the book had another round of copy-editing. Still, as a whole, Ellory's book is well-structured and evocative; I enjoyed reading it, even though had it not been a First Reads option, I doubt I would've read it.

Missed the mark. But heartwarming.

More about the troubles of a woman and her relationships with her dad and abusive husband. some flashbacks to rabbit girls but not much. While the story was good, it wasn't the historical content i wanted based on the title.

This one starts off slow, and for about 1/4 of the book I was wondering why it was titled The Rabbit Girls because they weren't in it at all. When they finally made their appearance in the book their story grabbed me and the book instantly became more interesting. I wished their story had been the main focus of the book. Instead, they end up serving as inspiration for Miriam. This book is really her story, not theirs. That's too bad, because I found Miriam tiresome.

The description is very misleading, I chose this book because of the Holocaust aspect but that was a very small part of it and doesn't go into much detail about that part of the story.

The story was more focused on the main character and her issues. It kind of dragged out too, it could have done with less useless details and so many flash backs.

If you go into it with the mindset of just reading then it is a good book but if you're in it for the Holocaust aspect you will be disappointed

Very slow going in the beginning, and the lack of exposition made it a bit tough because the author was bread crumbing bits of info. Now this usually works well, but because of all the different storyline at play, it made it tough to follow. But the second half of the book was fantastic, it unravelled really quickly, and kept me gripped. I didn't see the twist coming either, and it taught me a lot about the holocaust.

What a dreadful book. Don’t waste your money.
I finally gave up just after about a half. I couldn’t stand the fact that the main character let herself get raped by her husband over and over again. She’s weak and spineless. I found it angering and frustrating.
The other two plots (Her father and Frieda and concentration camp plot) were interesting and I wish the author paid more attention to those.
