I've enjoyed Zahra's climate optimism newsletter for a while, and was excited to see she was publishing a book. It was full of more in-depth descriptions of climate successes, which I had been hoping for. And I appreciated the different spheres of activism she covered - courts, streets, and markets - which helped break down potentially overwhelming information. I did think that this book could have used better copyediting, and an even deeper dive into some of the topics.

meh. i wish it was more instructional/than textbook-y. it's not very helpful when all someone tells you to "get involved!" when there's a problem

It’s really hopeful to remember how much good we have done in the past, to know that we can make big changes.

The author talks about how international travel in her youth lead to her understanding poverty and climate change, etc. Something about her profiting off international travel, a private university education, and talking a lot about how the climate catastrophe is not as bad as we think it is was not doing it for me.

This reads like a textbook, & features the best & worst parts of one: lots of facts, numbers, & case studies but absolutely no personality or authorial voice. You get the feeling that anyone could have written this book, which is a shame because Zahra’s specific, unique voice is what the reader really wants to hear.

It’s almost like this is the published version of her undergrad thesis or something…? Hopefully we’ll get more/better writing from her in the future.
