Plot was good and kept me hooked! However, the relationship seemed really rushed and I was not a fan that Sam let the relationship happen while still in the investigation. I think it would have been nice to have it drawn out in this one and draw the tension out for an explosive ending as there are 16 books in this series. One main issue i had was the formatting. It kills me when you have two characters talking but there is no paragraph break. Could have just been the way it was printed, but I was so close to putting it down because of it. Overall it was fine

What a fantastic start to this series! I really didn't know what to expect when I picked up this book, so I was thrilled that the version that I read included the prequel to this series. I was really given a taste for the characters and the story.
Fatal Affair was an intriguing read. I loved the mystery that surrounded this book. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I think this story had a little something for everyone and is filled with suspense, great characters, entertaining banter and exciting chemistry. I loved trying to figure out what was going on and whether I was correct about the killer.
Like I said, I think this series is off to a great start. I found it be entertaining and refreshing from my usual reads. I'm looking forward to continuing on with this series and seeing where it will go next.

I love that the main characters didn't play games with each other and hold back their feelings like most books. There were twists and turns. Plenty of action and romance intertwined perfectly. I can't wait to continue on the journey set up in this first book of the series.

Very good read, good writing, and interesting plot. The murder mystery really kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I was truly baffled as to who could be the killer until I started putting it together at around the 80% mark. The murders that take place are pretty brutal and really not for the feint of heart, but thankfully they are described quickly and we move past them. It takes place in the DC/Arlington, VA area and because my brother has lived there for years, I know the places described well enough to imagine them perfectly.
The romance is sweet and sexy, but takes place a bit too fast for my tastes. There's a bit of the dreaded instalove that had me rolling my eyes more than once. It's the only reason I didn't give it the full 5 stars. But it was still enjoyable, so it's a minor gripe. As individuals, Nick and Sam are both strong characters. Sam is a total badass cop, never a damsel in distress, and I love that. She definitely knows what she's doing. Nick's alpha male routine had me rolling my eyes right along with Sam and I'm glad he was able to come to his senses and let that go somewhat. He's very sweet, smart, and charming.
I didn't realize there was more to the series involving Sam and Nick. I read a preview of the second book and was thinking about getting it, but then I realized that there are TWELVE books in this series so far and they are all about Sam and Nick. I'm not sure I'm quite that invested into their story to read that many books about them. We'll see...

What really makes this book work is Sam Holland. If you are looking for a tough lady cop who is rough around the edges and has some great verbal jabs, she is your lady. Nick is a solid hero, too, although you can tell he has some trouble being with such a ballsy woman--he's not giving her up, though, and that makes him worth your while. Freddie is a great character, too. All in all, I can see why this series is so popular. Force does a great job of adding a little mystery here and another there so that the tale keeps going. This particular mystery felt a little like a cheat to me, but I'd easily read on just for the characters she's created.
Oh, these two go at it like rabbits, though. Seriously. I don't know how they had time to solve any crimes.

This book was well written with good character development. I enjoyed the twists and turns. I read this FREE Nook book in two days. Highly recommended for the crime novel enthusiast.
