Done. SOLD. Love Sam and Nick. I love the dynamic between Sam and her partner Freddie! Can't wait to get to Book 2.
Despite being a "bad copy" of the In Death series of J.D.Robb, I still enjoyed this novel and I will read the sequels, while waiting for the original to be published.

I’ve had this one in my TBR for ages. I enjoyed it tremendously. Decent character development, intriguing backstory, attempted suspense, but the novel falls short of ever truly being suspenseful. Overall a nice read and I’d love to continue the series at some point. Memorable characters.
I enjoyed this suspense/romance. Sam and Nick met six years ago and had an incredible one-night-stand. It wasn't supposed to be a one-night-stand, but Sam didn't think Nick had called, and Sam's roomate -- future husband/dickhead -- didn't tell Sam that Nick had called. Nick's best friend is murdered. John was a senator and Nick was John's chief of staff. Nick is the one who found him. Immediately, Sam and Nick are feeling the sparks again, but Sam tries so hard to resist Nick since he's a material witness on her case. Ultimately it's a losing battle... there's just too much chemistry. And Nick isn't giving up. I kept thinking there was going to be some deep, dark secret about Nick revealed -- he was just too perfect. He was a good guy, he fought "well" with her (he could admit his own shortcomings and try to deal with hers), and he was just great. Sam was a strong character as well, though she sure gave in quickly to Nick. :-) But hey... she had a shit marriage... she deserves some happiness. And he was really helping the investigation. He was often in the right place at the right time to help her. All in all, a nice start to a series. I'll have to continue with this series.
This series kind of reminds me of J.D. Robbs "In Death" series, but set in present and with a bit more graphic sex. Sam Holland is very much an uber cop in the way Eve Dallas is, but she has family and family issues.
Mediocre at best. Felt like it was trying hard to be a JD Robb “In Death” book, but missed the mark. The dialogue was flat, not helped by the audiobook reader who verged on the robotic. It had a lot of strengths; the plot was fine and the characters were pretty good, I think it was just the clunky, repetative dialogue that ruined it.
I feel like if I had read this book before reading State Affairs, I would have given it a 5 star review but since I didn't, I think it's deserving of a 4 star review. It definitely had more spiciness than I was expecting but I really enjoyed the mystery and the romance as well as the side characters. I am eagerly waiting for the next book to become available and hear more about Sam and Nick.
Exciting, thrilling story. It has everything in it, love and mystery solving. Killings and sorrow. I just loved it can't wait to read book #2
Loved, loved, loved this book the perfect combination of suspense and romance. I have to be honest, after reading this book, I couldn't wait to see what happened next and now 3 days later, I have been on a Marie Force reading binge and am on book 4 of the series. I had to pause to write my review before I got to far ahead.
Nick and Sam's chemistry was off the charts. From the first time they met in the book, I knew that it was going to be an interesting ride. The suspense story kept me on the edge of my seat, and I never had the killer pegged!
I am very stingy with my 5 star ratings....rarely do books get 5 stars from me and rarely do I just jump into a reading binge! This book/series has elicited both a 5 star and a reading binge! Bravo Marie! Bravo!
I normally write longer reviews, but I am right in the middle of my book...and I want to go back to reading more of the Fatal Series. What are you waiting for? Get this book...read this series!!!! Most definitely recommend!
