I honestly don’t know how Taylor Jenkins Reid did it, but I read a book about tennis. A whole book. About tennis. And I liked it? TJR is so good in writing such realistic stories which made this book so interesting, just like the other books I’ve read written by her. I loved the storyline and it read so quickly and it was honestly a joy to read this book. The only downside to this book is the fact that it’s completely about tennis. I would’ve expected another storyline to intertwine, but that didn’t happen. This made the book sometimes a little too repetitive, but still like I said, I really enjoyed it!

I’ve liked a lot of Reid’s other books, but this wasn’t for me. It was very similar to the plot of Cars 3. And don’t get me started on the Spanish.

I wasnt looking forward to this book much in the beginning because i was expecting it to be about winning, ambition, resilience and all that, which i thought i wouldn’t resonate with much. But it turned out to be so much more; it was about a beautiful father daughter relationship, with all its ups and downs; it was about the internal battle of learning how to accept, to live, to show your emotions, and that i ended up relating to a lot. I also thought I didn’t care much about tennis until the passage where Soto wins Wimbledon; the slow, descriptive writing made the moment feel so raw and emotional, and i was truly surprised that Reid could make me care so much about a heroine and story i thought i wouldn’t like in the beginning. Probably one of her best works.
