3.5 was disappointed for most of the book, i knew going into it it was a book about tennis but there was just TOO MUCH tennis plus i was constantly having to google translate whenever they spoke spanish (fault of my own need to get on duolingo) but it slowed down my reading of the book in a way i didn’t enjoy.
TJR is one of my favs but felt a little let down. loved the character of carrie tho surprisingly i just loved seeing a female character so unapologetic in who she was and what she wanted to do. Plus i read it all in one sitting so it must’ve been pretty decent.

TJR never fails to disappoint. I loved this book so much my god, I can't stop reading anything Reid puts out. This was the first book I've read about women in sports and I am so in love with tennis now that I'm going to start playing. TJR opened my eyes to the sexism in sports broadcasting and the way women are represented in the media. Carrie was a force to be reckoned with and people hated and shamed her for her commitment, passion, and drive. Why? Probably because they were jealous and sexist. I cried I laughed, and I was on the edge of my seat, feeling all types of emotions during this. It felt like I was actively present at Wimbledon and in Melbourne watching Carrie tear it up on the court. SUCH a good book and completely changes the perspective you have on Carrie after her first introduction in Malibu Rising. She deserves respect.
A solid 3.5 stars but it wasn’t the most gripping read from TJR. I liked it, I may even re-read in the future. But I’m not sure how much the story is going to stay with me. I even considered putting it down somewhere in the middle, and I hoped that Carrie would become a little bit more likeable the further we went through the novel, but I don’t think we got to see the character growth in her enough.

I LOVE sports books, and I love how Taylor Jenkins Reid brings her characters to life. Evelyn, Daisy and now Carrie are some of the realest characters I've ever read. I loved every single part of this book.
