The idea that two children could disappear into New York for a week without triggering a full-scale manhunt is certainly quaint. As a 2018 adult, though, I really enjoyed this one. It values that children want to be interesting people, people with secrets who might do something unexpected--and it values the same thing about old people, even women. The finances are off, the Met is no longer free, but the novel is essentially timeless.
Loved this book as a kid and still love it now. It's very clever and the author doesn't talk down to the reader. Can't wait to read it with my daughter!

Like many others I read this as a kid and loved it, then proceeded to forget everything except the kids running away to the museum. Even the title was forgotten, but it's thankfully an easy book to track down with what I did remember.
As an adult it's a fast, light read-- a nice break from heavier stuff.

I like to use some reading challenge prompts to do a little nostalgic reading, and this one was such a fun one. I only remembered them staying in the museum and waiting in the bathrooms but it was fun to have all the details flood back to my memory as I read. some delightful drawings to bring it to life, and I loved that it was so much about finding yourself too.
