“Claudia doesn’t want adventure,” says Mrs. Frankweiler. “She likes baths and feeling comfortable too much for that kind of thing. Secrets are the kind of adventure she needs. Secrets are safe, and they do much to make you different. On the inside, where it counts.”

"Some people spend all their time on a vacation taking pictures so that when they get home they can show their friends evidence that they had a good time. They don’t pause to let the vacation enter inside of them and take that home.”

I just read this childhood favorite of mine again for the parent/child book discussion with my son. I remember loving this book as a fourth grader and was excited to share it with him. He liked it okay, but once I started and remembered all the details I had forgotten it was so much fun all over again and I loved it.

Seems dated on rereading and wonder what kids these days will think of it especially if they've never been to the museum.

It holds up!

I was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and my brother and when we saw a fancy bed, he thought about this book. I had never read it, so I thought I did. It was fun. Not particularly life-changing or anything, but fun.

I'm a little sad that the bedroom they slept in was taken down.

I remembered how much this book made me want to run away to live in the MFA as a kid, but I hadn’t remembered how much I loved the characters themselves - all so delightfully flawed and relatable in their own ways.

One of my favorite books as a kid. This books also inspired Wes Anderson to write parts of The Royal Tenenbaums.
