This was mix of erotic and childish fantasy...
I forced myself to finish this book. It was a painful read...
I can't believe how it ended...
Majority of the book was about the 2 women charming each other...
So much sexual imagery and wording...
The world itself was somewhat interesting, just like some of the creatures...but it was just too childish..That godess couldn't be more cringe???
I can see the potential, but the writer is just immature...Wasted my time with this book!

From one of the blurbs on the back of the book: "I read the last page, closed the book, and muttered 'Wow'".
That's exactly what I did. I read this novel when I lived in a 19th floor apartment and the view I had really helped appreciate the scope of things. I could visualize how the cables must have looked. Outstanding novel.Outstanding series of three. Read 'em.

I liked this book. It kind of dragged with the travelling, though.
Interesting world, although the "Living World" part really only kicked in at the end.
Someone complained about it being very Hard SF, and describing how Gaia worked too much. But, if an SF novel starts focusing too much on that, I just start skimming.
The main character was ok.
There was a rape scene, and I thought it was poorly done. It just seemed like it was SUCH a cliche "She made me do it", "See, I knew you'd like it" kinds of things. Maybe it was a cliche because lots of rapes are like that(never been there). But, the degree of cliche-ness probably made me groan more than the rape made me uncomfortable.

Ew, I suppose we liked this sort of thing in the '70s but it doesn't really stand up to rereading. This is one of the various books I'm giving a quick re-read to before de-acquisitioning. Since what I have is a book club edition, I doubt anyone but Goodwill's gonna want it.
My go'ness did that go down easy. I'd starting reading this book decades ago when I was barely a teen, but didn't finish it at the time. I've read some other Varley in the meantime, and realized I'd been missing out. So finding a decent copy in a thrift store recently, I snagged it. I think it took me only three reading sessions and I'm done. Haven't burned through a book that quickly in ages. And it was a trip!

Awesome! Varley is making a case for being one of my favorite authors with a strong second read. His novels exude imagination and creativity, and they’ve aged fairly well compared to other authors writing around the same time. Varley consistently has well-written, likeable female characters (which unfortunately is worth noting for a sci-fi novelist in the ‘70s) and I appreciate his progressive outlooks on the future that feel ahead of its time. Aside from all that though, Titan was just a bunch of fun. It’s like if you took “Rendezvous with Rama” but threw in a bunch of centaurs and finally added a splash of “The Wizard of Oz.” THIS is what Rama should have done to hold my interest apparently..
Great sense of adventure and discovery with a satisfying and unexpected ending. Will definitely read on further into the trilogy and I genuinely can’t imagine what’ll be next.
