Super cute and fast to read. Love Penny and the Bluebirds, I read the king family series first and this is definitely the sweeter more wholesome side of town!

Wyatt is a dirty talking single dad and you can’t hate him for it 🥰

Overall the story was sweet and spicy. The characters and setting were great. No third act breakup, which is always a plus!

I do feel like there was something lacking from the story. Possibly more interactions between Lark and Wyatt. It seemed they were mostly interacting with others. Or maybe even an actual resolution to the Royal King favor.

Epilogue was adorable and I liked that we got to see what happened to Joey, Kevin, and Michael.

How does a book this long manage to never delve past the superficial?

It's so strange, because this author included so many of the right words (to build romance and good spice) but because she barely put the character interactions on the page (outside of sex), it just all fell a little... flat.

Almost all of the H&h interactions happened in one of their recollection rather that in real time for us to experience the in-the-moment dialogue and emotions. It ended up feeling detached. I never got a sense of the chemistry these two supposedly had. And because we didn't get to experience most of their interactions "in person", it felt like they never had a chance to build a relationship. And when he broke out his dirty talking rough sex persona it actually felt a little risky. Good thing she was into it! And he never wore the persona well. We've all read golden retriever, cinnamon roll Heroes who got extra-spicy in the bedroom and it worked SO WELL. It didn't here.

I really wanted to like this book because for the most part I enjoyed the setup. I thought the characters we were introduced to had so much potential. But at the end of the day I'm just not excited to read more in this author's style.

3.5⭐️ but rounded up for cute vibes!!
The small town and its nicknames and family rivalries are kind of weird but I'm invested now

DNF, premise just couldn't get me interested. the paid cryer? the over-the-top tension/anger stuff that will obviously flip into kissytime? it's like when kids play dolls and the dolls fight for a while and then make out. just feels so basic.
