The word for this book is 'absurd'. I just kept thinking it. Absurd, absurd, absurd.... And I liked it.Honestly, it's a little bit giving the help of Crazy Rich Asians.
I thought this was a murder mystery type situation and it is absolutely not. Someone IS murdered and then the the aptly named Madeline and her family spend a huge wedding party working and trying to cover it up. That family is RIDE OR DIE and everyone is weirdly okay with the killing? Like even acquaintances, that was shocking to me. The aunties are not only loyal AF but also hilarious. I loved the bad translations and language barriers. I also loved the role of dim sum on the family dynamic, but I'll let you figure that one out WHEN you read this book!
A few things I did not love as much. The flashbacks felt confusing and inconsistent, but we got there. I also really wanted another perspective--probably one of the aunties to round out the story.
This should 100% be a play, it is made for the stage and would translate Soooo well!!! Lastly, I'm ready for book 2, this book was unexpected and an unprecedented style for me, but I enjoyed it through all the absurdity.

A cute book that is constantly trying to make stressful situations like killing someone or being held at gunpoint lighthearted and funny. And honestly mostly succeeding. Watching Meddy grow a spine was delightful and the aunts had me cracking up with their antics. A fun, fast read.

I personally found that it was almost too many story lines in one book and they didn’t quite seamlessly flow into each other
I also found the FMC really underwhelming and kind of long winded. The aunties were funny and kept me in the book though
