Hands up if you only read the book because Harry Styles has been cast as Tom in the movie (✋That’s me. That’s why I read the book.)
The story is set in two periods, one of which is the late 1950s when homosexuality was still illegal in the UK. The book is well written in parts but I found it slightly disconcerting not hearing Tom’s POV. As a result, he comes across as a bit of a mystery and is objectified by both Marion and Patrick - which was perhaps the author’s intent.
Minus 1 star because the ending felt a little unresolved.
Minus 1 star because I don’t like Marion. The ending was rather selfish and all about her which I guess was true to the way her character has been portrayed.

I haven't read anything like it before, I'm still not sure it's my cup of tea but I'm glad I've read it.
It wasn't fast-paced but in a good way, added more charm to the overall experience. I'll admit I wouldn't read it if it wasn't for the upcoming movie but I'm definitely happy I got to know the story of that three way relationship and the different kind of sadness each of them caused me. Or maybe the same sadness but the fact that it was different reason? I couldn't help but feel sorry for them and wished they all could be happy after all but knew its not possible at the time. To be honest, I'm not fully sure that Marion is the villain, none of them are or maybe all of them?
