Read this in its entirety on a bus from Chiang Khong to Chiang Mai. It was very good.

I think this book would’ve been better if she had fallen in love with Julia after she sent that incriminating letter. Sure seemed like it sometimes? Bc why was Julia there

Finished this in a day. I know my Harry girlies are in here and let me tell you.. if you’re debating reading it do it!!! The movie did not do this story as much justice as it should have. This was a beautifully heartbreaking story that had me holding my breath. I still just wanted it to be longer. I needed more. But it was beautiful.

„I know you can hear me, though. Because when I say the word Tom, your eyes brighten, even now.“

4/5😮‍💨….. Firstly this has to be one the best endings of a book yet…. As a gay man I definitely resonated with this book. However can’t give it 5 stars because of Tom. I honestly felt like so much stuff could have been avoided if Tom simply opened his mouth.
Marion I was literally yelling at you to STANDDD UPPP THE ENTIRE TIME. However you ate the ending up.
Patrick, Patrick, Patrick I get it but you were also part of the problem.

I think I would have liked this even more if I had physically read it rather than listened via audiobook.
This was a heartbreaking "period" piece. I found a lot of Marion's dissections of the 1950's quite interesting and her mental acrobatics of her husbands' indiscretions surprisingly forgiving and understanding. I felt sympathy for all characters, except Tom, and I'm unsure if that was the point. Nonetheless, this was a well-written story and the characters kept me curious what had happened. The ending was quite beautiful.
