3.5 ⭐ due to the ending 1/4 being a generous 3 ⭐, but the rest of the book is definitely a 4 ⭐

The beginning of the book was so good! I liked the setup and the meet cute, and a lot of the chemistry between the characters was good. The first 3/4 was fun and flirty fluff that I enjoyed a lot.

Then the last 1/4 happened with some incredibly stupid character reactions to conflict coming from Jasmin, who has not heard of reacting reasonably to a man having a boundary.

They sleep together for maybe a few weeks, never put a label on their relationship at any point and just have sex, and she decides she deserves to know about every little secret Ashton has had, including those that only three other people in the world know about? I had hope because when everything was going downhill she reacted reasonably and gave him space, but then she feels lied to about something that was absolutely not her business???

Thank God for her cousin talking sense into her, though she chooses not to really apologize and the book decides to state she shouldn't need to.

The fact that it went so sharply from a reasonable conflict after a decent story to an unreasonable one with too much miscommunication is the worst part.

There were some issues with Ashton as well, as his walls he kept up blocked a lot of the story momentum and any character growth felt forced onto him by the author and not a natural progression.

Overall decent, but I'm not really tempted to read the rest of the books in this series, especially considering the fact that the premise of this one was the only draw in the first place.

I have been trying to consciously add more diverse books to my TBR and absolutely loved You Had Me At Hola. Jasmine & Ashton were so adorable. I loved how the story was written with the tv show chapters. Excited to read the next!

After Jasmine, a soap opera star, goes through a very messy, very public breakup, she decides it is time to focus on her career and stop letting men dictate where her life goes. She gets hired to lead a show on a popular streaming service alongside a very handsome telenovella star, Ashton. Ashton has a secret son and a deep distrust of the media. What follows is an lovely story about these two unlikely people coming together.

I really loved this book. I thought the conversations about boundaries and expectations were very mature and helpful as a reader to see. The discussions around Latinx representation in film and tv was very enlightening and showed the diversity of the community. Jasmine is my hero, and I loved every minute we got to spend with her. Even though she was struggling with her dependency on men, I never once felt like she was weak for it. She was such a strong voice, with insightful knowledge and ways of dealing with people. Her character really made me feel like I should be standing up for myself more.

Overall, a really lovely, fun book. I'm excited to read the next one, following Jasmine's cousin, Michelle!

I'm glad giving it 4 stars because I devoured it in one afternoon. I will say it's too steamy for my taste, and there were a few eye roll worthy moments where the author tried too hard to make a statement.

I don't know that I'll bother with book 2 in the series.

Jasmine and Ashton are stars of a new show coming to the biggest streaming service. She's dealing with the fall out of her last breakup, and he is trying to hide his family (specifically his son) from the media.

Not only is the cover gorgeous, the story is wonderful! I'm not usually into celebrity romances, but I adored reading about Jasmine. She's such an amazing main character! Ashton is no slouch either. I loved the setting, the families, the culture, the food! The details like Jasmine doesn't speak Spanish fluently while Ashton does and how Jasmine tried to make everyone feel comfortable on set as the lead actress. Oh and the intimacy coach scenes!! Delightful.

4.5 ⭐️!! I loved the book and the wide Latinx representation! Following the story of Jasmine and Ashton slowly, actually rather quickly, falling for each other with their undeniable chemistry playing Carmen and Victor, they were able to break barriers and respect boundaries. I appreciated the consistent reminders of the importance of communication and consent before anything

I had a hard time getting through the first third of the book. It was as if the exposition would never end. Once we are able to see pieces of Carmen in Charge and the character’s relationship, the book moves much faster and becomes more of the romance I was hoping for.

muy perfecto

i’m gonna start learning spanish again (but also i loved that i was able to understand most of it!!!)

this book is everything. highly highly highly recommend.
