⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What a fun read! This book was so cute. I loved the Latino representation. The author did a great job showing the nuances within the Latin community, especially here in states. This was a real slow burn for sure, by the time they got to the first kiss I felt the anticipation and was kicking, screaming and giggling all the way through.

The third act breakup was annoying, only in the fact that they had been back and forth for a good 20% of the book, so by the time we got to it, I was like “again?!” But it all worked itself out. Can’t wait to read about Michelle!

This book was just too filled with neuroses. Jasmines like “haha quirky middle child syndrome I crave attention and get clingy with bad guys because I crave attention. And love the rush of making somebody love me haha.” Like???? Bitch go to therapy you admit you have a problem stop projecting ur shit onto everyone. Ashtons like I had an extremely traumatic experience and ive coped by pretending it doesn’t exist and living in a web of lies and secrets that causes me extreme anxiety and I am unable to cope with my job and life but its fine tho. It sux dude it does but its been 8 years maybe start growing and fucking go to therapy. The narrative just reinforces their idiosyncrasies as being justified rather than disordered and unhealthy. Paps are chasing ashton so hes right to hide his child in another country. Men do lie to jasmine so shes right to be clingy and possessive.
At some point in romance novels the whole “we cant be together” thing makes you go alright don’t be together. Its fine line of will they or wont they but this book crosses over into I don’t even care if they do.
Right when the shit hits the fan jasmine decides shes changed and is a newer better version of herself. Gotta love overnight growth.
I loved the rep and setting. But this book is just too off the mark

Picked this up at Marden's as a possible "diverse voices" read that I could share with a student--it's pretty well written and entertaining but

WOW! Has the most detailed sex scenes I've ever read. . . WHOOSH! Not something I'd share with a student! Whew!

So it adds racial, ethnic and cultural diversity to my reading, but it leaves *very* little to the imagination. I know *just* which friend will enjoy this one!

Great characters and setting! I rather enjoy movie romances, and this set was wonderful—caring, diverse, and well researched. The side characters really stood out, and I loved seeing trans characters being included!

As for the characters, I really felt for both of them and their journeys were authentic. However, I liked the sparks that flew at the start and I would’ve liked to see more!

DNF at around 70%. The plot was so boring and predictable, I could have written this in my sleep.

So good!! Sexy and soapy, but also lots of serious moments about vulnerability, consent, representation. I loved the commentary on Latinx representation in media - the conversations between Jasmine and Ashton about how important their roles were because if they didn’t succeed, it could shut the door for future Latinx productions was spot on. There is so much pressure on people of color to succeed, because we don’t get the same second, third, fourth, and fifth chances that white people get. Daria also explores the similarities between how both soap operas and telenovelas & romance novels aren’t taken as seriously as other forms of media, despite being the backbone of their respective industries. All of this amazing commentary and storytelling is taking place within this funny and sexy romance, both on and off the screen. I love that we get a story within a story, as there are chapters that are scenes from their show, Carmen in Charge. Both of Jasmine and Ashton’s families play a huge role in this story and you can really tell how important their families are to them, even if they’re expressed in different ways. I could go on and on about how much I loved this romance - it’s definitely a contender for my favorite romance of the year!
