Jasmine is a soap opera actress who struggles with her desire to find love when she's prone to falling too fast for the wrong men.

Ashton is a telenovela actor who's reservation and cold exterior hides a painful past and a precious secret he must protect.

But he's also a huge awkward clam who spills coffee on his costar the first day on the set of a "ScreenFlix" remake of an older novela. That costar, is of course, Jasmine.

And like, I usually don't go for famous people stories but this one worked for me.

Okay, so I read this after having read the sequel, and I really liked them both much more together. Like, with Jasmine, Ashton, Michelle, and Gabriel we get a wide view of what it's like to be part of the Latinx community. Their relationships with their families, their personalities and experiences are different and yet, they all feel so authentic and real. I'm not Puerto Rican specifically, but I felt so at home reading this.

I also loved the way Jasmine would always, always, text her primas and ask for their input and support. It really shows her character, and also it's relatable. I too need to tell my friends whenever anything happens and I love the comfort and advice. ^^;

I also really like Jasmine and Ashton as characters. Their personal journeys were compelling (confronting a need to be loved, confronting past trauma) and I'm glad they get therapy.

I really liked how organic some of the heavier conversations were. Like their experiences with language, and how Ashton, the one w an accent had a firm grasp on both English and Spanish, while Jasmine is improving her Spanish. It was written in so smoothly, but touches on something BIG in second gen circles.

The romance itself was sweet. I did struggle with some of the early interactions (it took a while for Ashton to even speak alone w Jasmine). But some highlights I loved: the scene at the grocery store, at karaoke, and of course, at the big party.

I also kinda struggled with the, uh, Ashton secret. Not because he didn't tell her right away, more on the execution of the fallout following the revelation. I would have wanted more Sorry to match the Hurt, on BOTH ends.

But overall, I'm glad I read it, and I will still read everything and anything Daria writes. She's really great with building out casts and the little interactions and details that sell a story.

such an addictive read! i love all the drama and the chemistry between ashton and jasmine. another thing that i like about this book is that it highlights the importance of representation and consent in the entertainment industry. i also grew up with a lot of telenovelas and reading this felt like i was getting an inside scoop on a primetime hit. i admire the spotlight on family dynamics as well, with jasmine's big chaotic family and ashton's close-knit one. overall, this is a very entertaining book and a perfect read for valentine season.

I really wanted to love this book. I tried. Story fell flat to me and just rushed through to finish it.

It was cute and a quick read but the plot wasn’t original and it all was slapped together also the LATINX drove me crazy. No Latino person actually uses that word and the author wrote it 1 million times which pissed me off to no end.

This took me longer to read than I wanted. And it had nothing to do with the book. But wow! I really enjoyed this. Content warning: pretty detailed sex scenes. Which I wasn’t expecting at all. But it wasn’t overwhelming the whole story. What really sent me over the edge with this book is how connected the cover of the book is (the characters, their outfits, the colors) all tied into the end of the book. I was squealing. I really enjoyed the characters. I’d have to say this is my favorite fictional couple. It’s even more of a plus that I can relate to the culture. Both Ashton and Jasmine definitely had their flaws but I’m so glad they came together in the end. Solid 4.5 stars! And the cover is *chef’s kiss*.

This was overall a pretty entertaining read. Great chemistry, sympathetic characters, engaging enough plot. I think I'll read Alexis Daria's next novel, and hopefully it's about one of the cousins.

Fun romance novel with a definite Jane the Virgin era feeling to it. ❤️
