A Return to Normalcy—Almost
While I was delighted to pick up the first Jessica Fletcher mystery post-Land, I have to say Moran still has a ways to go to return our heroine to her proper glory.
Killing marked a return to the cozier mystery, but Moran made it almost too cozy. Towards the end we were practically at boring. There was no need for endless talk about what Dolores was wearing or her going through every detail of the funeral. Furthermore, the killer was much too obvious—I knew as soon as the slippers were mentioned. On a final note, Moran inexplicably brought along Land’s use of Harry McGraw. While his scowl was nowhere to be found, he showed up to provide far-off information. What happened to JB being able to figure things out on her own?

Four Stars
I was given this copy of Killing in a Koi Pond in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Berkley Publishing Group for giving me this amazing opportunity to fangirl over my first MSW ARC!

On a trip to visit an old friend, Jessica finds herself in yet another whodunnit. Eager to help her old pal, Jessica extends her visit to help as much as she can. While trying to support and calm Dolores, Jess connects with her old friend Harry, to get the the bottom of the elusive business dealings of Dolores' late husband, Willis.
---
Throughout the various authors of the MSW book series, there is always a constant; a twist, a turn, and satisfying solve. Terrie Farley Moran has definitely lived up to the standard set by the great Donald Bain. Jessica is in good hands.
I loved this book a great deal. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars, was due the the random lulls in the story. I felt there were a few chapters that were dull and didn't really need to be there. Not sure if they were placed strategically to build suspense or not, but I didn't make that connection.
Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone who loves a good cozy mystery. This book could easily be finished in a weekend. Short, sweet, and to the point. The characters were well thought out, and the book had a good story arc. I cannot wait for more MSW from the mind of Terrie Farley Moran!

I enjoyed Killing in a Koi Pond once I got through the first few chapters. Jessica arrives in South Carolina and is immediately surrounded by not so great people, aside from her friend Dolores who is a nice lady. Everyone else, including Dolores’ husband, is a bully, or mean, or rude. And then Willis is killed that night. It was just too quick an introduction to the suspects and the murder happened too soon after she arrived for my taste.
Once I got settled in though, the story was fun. Jessica is the Jessica we’ve known for years, nosey, friendly, talkative. The other characters are fleshed out well, and several have reasons to want Willis dead, but you may guess who the killer is before Jessica’s reveal. There were several twists, but to be honest, I enjoyed the characters more than the actual plot, but I think that’s okay for a Murder, She Wrote book.

Read most of the Murder She Wrote novels. This one has a different author, Terrie Farley Moran, who did a great job with the story. Jessica was visiting a friend when the husband was killed. The story followed the intricate path in discovering who the killer really was. The usual characters, e.g. Seth, were peripheral since this story took place in N. Carolina.

Jessica has traveled to visit an old friend in South Carolina. While there she finds a body and sets out to solve the crime. This is a typical Murder She Wrote Mystery. I liked the setting and the characters. The mystery was OK and it was easy to solve. It was a quick light read.

I don’t even know how to rate this book. I had big-time nostalgia for the tv show while reading this. I loved the tv series as a child and was thrilled to discover the book series. I started out loving it and while entertaining, the writing left quite a bit to be desired. All of the characters felt over-written and like caricatures of actual people. Though it held my attention and entertained me, I found myself being pulled out of the story during every scene with dialogue - these characters say things that aren’t needed for the story or character development, in ways that real people don’t speak. I didn’t hate it, but I also didn’t love it.
