You guys, I REALLY like Lorraine Heath's books and this one was no exception!
We meet Grace, who's determined to marry a man who loves her and is realistic about her dowry attracting the wrong kind of men: ones who are only after the money. I like that she knows what she wants and isn't afraid to ask for it. I thought it was a teensy bit obsessive that she's determined to bring Lovingdon back to society, but hey, whatever works for you. Also, if this hadn't been a romance novel, but real life, and Grace was my friend, I would have warned her that trying to convince a widower who's all bitter about love to love again is something that she should maybe forget about. So I liked that she had some people in her life warning her off. Not that she paid any attention. But let's be honest, if everyone was sensible all the time, not a lot of exciting things would happen right?
I liked Lovingdon. He's loved and lost and doesn't want to go through that again and you know what, I can understand it. I mean, his loss was devastating. That's not something you bounce back from easily and you shouldn't in my opinion. I liked that he truly cared for Grace and how he wasn't really sure what it was exactly what he was doing: AKA he was loosing his head over Grace. I like that in a man.
I REALLY liked seeing these two together and felt all the heartache Grace did when he was kissing her but saying he didn't mean anything by it and was just 'showing her what a rake would do' I mean SERIOUSLY?? I would have slapped him as well. Stupid man. You can't do stuff like that. But he had the best intentions, so I forgave him.
I love how Lorraine Heath's books always make me smile and they're just feel good books for me!
My rating: 4 stars

This book treats topics that aren't the usual in Historical Romance, or even in Romance in general. I won't tell you which are those topics because I don't want to spoil everything.
Lady Grace wants to marry for love, but she has an important dowry that attracts awful suitors. So she seeks help on a family friend, the widower turned rogue Duke of Lovingdon. And, obviously, the help turns into something more deep, more meaningful, and more steamy!
So if you're looking for a Historical Romance with a strong, decisive heroine with feminist points of view, who is really ahead of her time, and who has a storyline with impact and importance, here you can find one. And if you need the hero to support her and be a companion more than an owner, you absolutely have one. Because love and independence can and should be synonyms.

DOWN & DIRTY QUICKIE REVIEW!
One Sentence Summary:
A husband hunting heroine with a health secret snatches her playboy, grieving childhood BFF to help her play Spot The Scoundrel.
What part made you fangirl squeal:
1. When hero hottie launched a full-on fake-out charm onslaught in the carriage? DESE PANTIES WERE ON FIIIIIIIIIIIRE!
2. That. Cabin! SCENE!!!! When she revealed what her secret was??? And how in 15 years of romance reading I ain’t EVER seen that secret in an historical romance before?!?!?!!?!? The jaw drop was epic, yall.
Favorite Character:
True story! If you make me pick between Lovingdon and Grace, my head will decapitate itself from my body in protest. A beta hero faking it as an alpha playboy? A firecracker heroine with 0 filter and 0 fucks to give??? I choose, I die.
How smexy was the smex?
The Pound Town’s more “IMMA DO SOMETHING TO THIS PLOT” than “IMMA DO SOMETHING TO YO OVARIES!” Nice, but nothing extra crispy special.
Name That Trope:
Childhood BFFs, Forbidden Love, Forced Proximity, Let’s Make a Deal, Reforming The "Fake" Rake
Whose Line Is It Anyway:
Got any bitching to do?
Some might not like the sloooooooooooow burn romance. Some of yall may want more bed sheet action between the leads. BUT THAT SHIZNIT IS -MY- JAM! So nopeity nope, no bitching from this fangirl's booty.
Visually Depict Yo Book Feels:

Famous last words:
PERFECT FLIP-FLOPPING BOOK IS PERFECT, DAMMIT! A spunky heroine with a painful secret takes none of Grumpmaster 3000's shiznit. A hero fights super hard against his heart & pants feelings. And together, the OTP school one another on how both right & not right their perspectives are on love. THE BOOK DOES ALL OF THE THINGS WHAT MORE YE WANT?!

Oh my heart. I never read the synopsis so I had ZERO idea who or what this book was about. I’m so glad I didn’t. This story knocked the snot outta me. It was a sweet and slow burning romance with a side storyline that had tears flowing down my cheeks. The reluctant love was so entertaining to watch. Well, at least from the outside looking in. If I was living this story, I would’ve been a curled up in my bed.
Grace was the strongest 19 yr old ever. She was loved by all her family, blood and heart, and you could feel it. The teasing and the joys they shared was beautiful. But watching her look for love was rather daunting. She wanted to find a man who loved her but not her money. Very hard in those times.
Lovington doesn’t want to love anyone. He lost his true love and is happy with his bachelorhood. He’s content staying away from society but when Grace asks for help, he’d do anything for her.
I am so happy I decided to read this spin off. Seeing the kids all grown up was fantastic. I love when we get to see the kids. It’s nice to know how life goes on. I can’t imagine what’s going to come next.
