 Rating: A

This edition of the book includes: two supplementary stories and deleted passages from the book.
One about a duo drinking in a bar when a man stumbles in during a snow storm. His wife and daughter are still in their car and they've crashed into a snow bank.
The second is about the history of Jerusalem's Lot and the familial Boone connection.

I have been in the mood to read old school horror since I finished The House Next Door. Honestly, nothing beats the storytelling of these late 70's, early 80's horror novels. I read The Good House this year, too, and that was also excellent.
So despite the fact that early King is problematic (seriously? jahoobies? Also, how completely one dimensional is Susan?) there's no denying the man can write stories where the pages cannot turn themselves fast enough. I don't know how I missed this when I was on my King kick (decades ago, The Stand remains my favorite), but I'm glad I did. There are a few more I missed, or skipped, and may revisit now.
Honestly, I think I'm chasing the high I got from The Auctioneer- which I read last summer. That book was perfect.

Well-written. King knows how to craft a sentence; that's for sure. Scenery, character description, small town life, all beautifully done. The plot is reminiscent to Dracula. I must ask though: how is this scary or considered horror? Was anyone actually afraid reading this??
