I grew up watching the Duggars on TV and this was an interesting book to see what happened behind the scenes. Truthfully, this isn't an exposé, scandalous, or airing out of the dirty laundry. This is Jill talking through her trauma, her perspective leaving the family, and her thoughts on Josh. It also talks about her building her family with her husband and children.

No surprise that her faith is a big part of this book, and her struggling with the brainwashing of being a "quiverful" child is a big theme. The writing itself isn't spectacular, not is it a deep thinker. That doesn't minimize the story, however, as it's Jill speaking her truth about being a "tv family" and becoming her own individual.

Overall, I think most of my reason of enjoying this read is my knowledge of the Duggars and my personal experiences in the Bible belt. If you watched the Duggars, I definitely think this is an interesting read, however I'm not sure it's worth picking up if not.

Why did I absolutely CONSUME this book? No idea, but it was worth it.

The story was insightful but the narration was choppy.

After watching Shiny Happy People there weren't too many new revelations here, bit it was good, though difficult, to hear Jill telling her story herself.
