I love Graeme Base, and even though I know the solution to the mystery, I still find myself poring over this book for all the clues!

This is a mystery-puzzler good for kiddos who love a challenge. It's quite complex but the clues and answer are revealed at the back. The artwork is crazy-detailed; it's almost frustrating...I liked reading the clues to figure things out.

I read it as a kid and couldn't figure it out. Reading it again, knowing the answer, it was fun to notice all the clues. I wonder if I'd have figured it out as an adult, but I guess I'll never know.

As other readers have pointed out, a good chunk of the clues are some variation on "look for clues!"

One star off for Max's costume, but I loved Eric's.

This book is so much fun. I remember reading it with my mom when I was a kid and us having notebooks to write down clues and our guesses; and then recently I got a new copy and went through it again with my daughter! We had so much fun trying to figure out who ate all the birthday snackies.

I loved this book as a child and 30 years later, it still holds up reading it as an adult :) The illustrations are gorgeous and Graeme Base's humour is evident on every page and every puzzle. Speaking of puzzles, for children, I would say it is challenging - some will be able to complete on their own but I'd say most will require adult assistance. It is just an all 'round enjoyable read with a fun mystery to solve and some other more tricky puzzles to complete. Highly recommend.

An interactive picture book mystery that readers need to figure out through clues hidden throughout the book. With red herrings, codes, and patterns throughout, readers will have fun trying to figure out the answer while also trying to find all the clues.

I was given this book on loan by my favorite nine year old, Delilah. She said it was a "must read" so I took it home today. Not only is the story great, but the illustration is amazing!

This book was one of my childhood favourites!!! It's one of those books that every time you open it, you notice something different! There's always several clues on every page and it took me AGES to actually solve the mystery (the answers are at the back). The story is also pretty good too. Would definitely recommend but just make sure you've got several hours free because there's a lot of clues + interesting little side notes to discover! :D
