I enjoy Children's book and have a fairly large collection of them. I received Animalia as a gift and the illustrations were amazing. So when I saw this book by the same author I had to pick it up. It is a beautiful book that is mystery you must solve by looking through all the pages for clues to decipher. I think the layers of clues makes this book good for many ages. It just amazing to reveal each layer in the incredible illustrations.

This is one amazing book! The mystery is simple enough to point out to a 4 year old (observation and deduction, no code cracking skills needed). Yet there's so much knowledge, research and art that the author put into this book. For a brainiac it will be hours or even days of entertainment. I feel quite nerdy to find myself immensely and thoroughly enjoy this book!

I taught a class on Sherlock Holmes for our home school co-op and as an exercise in observation and deduction we studied this book in order for them to earn their Junior Sherlockian certificates from the Beacon Society. 24 kids in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade over 6 weeks. Amazing! They were dedicated to solving the crime without cheating and by solving the puzzles. I did give them some "data" to work with to aid them. Such as talking a bit about morse code, pig pen ciphers, hieroglyphics, and other things that I knew they would have to have some familiarity with in order to solve the puzzles. I did this prior to introducing the book so that they were aware these things existed and in order to trigger that memory when they saw something familiar in the text. I cannot praise this book highly enough. The class was a huge success and the kids (and their parents!) are eager for more Holmes. You cannot beat that!

Over the top art. But wow there is so much going on. Between the main story and the games and the mysteries. The extra text in the back is pretty well written. I expect that the right kid could spend days with this book and learn a lot about codes and hidden messages and so forth. It's too much and too hard but I'm also too old. 3.5 of 5.

Gorgeously crafted, but far too twisty for my poor brain.

This book is a case of more than meets the eye. I spent hours with my family pouring over the illustrations, trying to decipher the codes embedded in each one. There is more than one mystery to solve in this incredible book.

One of the most enchanting books I ever read. I got it for my 11th birthday, I believe and I worked out the mystery with my "Grammie". It's such a precious memory for me.

Like [b:Animalia|682751|Animalia|Graeme Base|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1177117831s/682751.jpg|2347064] this book kept me occupied for hours. Working out each little puzzle and trying to work out who the culprit was. I will have to find my old copy.

Since I was too young to even read it myself, I have loved this book. With it's colourful illustrations, fun characters and enticing mystery it is clear that Graeme Base has a gift for creating not just a book, but a work of pure art. This book holds countless hours of my childhood, engrossed in the story and trying to solve the mystery behind who stole the feast. It took me until I was about seven to finally figure it out! Even now, I love curling up every now and then and reliving this beautiful tale.

I was obsessed with this book as a child.
