I’m as impressed now then when I read it when it came out. I couldn’t put it down and would now need a few days of rest, ty.

I really do like this book (though I like the first two better), and Tatiana Maslany was an incredible narrator. However, this final book in the trilogy is just relentless darkness and trauma and it was really hard to take on this read through.

I'm still in shock—maybe even haunted—over everything that happened in this book. I found myself in a constant state of fear for the characters, even after it ended, even after it's been a week since I finished it.
Although they were victorious, I didn't feel like celebrating. There were just far too many lost and ruined lives. Finnick's and Prim's death pained me the most. They were my favorites, and they had so much of life post-Hunger Games to look forward to. I appreciated that Katniss didn't let Coin take over. She was too close on the road that Snow took—maybe even already there, only framed a little bit differently.

There's a difference in tone in this book that the others in the trilogy don't have and to be honest shouldn't and I appreciate the difference.

This Katniss is older, not in age, but life experiences and it has such a weight to it and adds to her shoulders as the book progresses through that I missed the first time I listened to this. The things that I loved about the book are still inherit but this new version narrated by Tatiana Maslany made a difference in that tone. Katniss' PTSD is more in focus, the awareness that she is more of a pawn now then ever are a few examples. Maybe because I'm aware of Maslany and her range from "Orphan Black" but she was able to capture Katniss in a different way than the previous narrator - Her Katniss is stoic, full of rage, saddened, naïve, and young and yet in this last book, she is that but also hardened, damaged both physically and mentally,  and she's also in a way deadened by the war and the loss and that plays into her PTSD that not named, is evident in her actions, in her way of compartmentalizing herself and ow much she gives away and keeps.
