1st effort needed more editing. And Eddie Flynn is an amazing martial artist, slight of hand and so overly legal knowledge and can twist anyone on the stand to make his point in 10 questions or less.

I read Fifty-fifty (the latest in the eddie flynn series) before this one so I had very high hopes as I LOVED Fifty-fifty. The story line/concept in this book was good and up to par with the later book, but it does feel like the author is trying to find his feet in this one. There was way too much repetition (if i played a drinking game of how many time Eddie says he is a hustler or his daughter is smart for her age, i would be drunk half way into the book) and there was too many unnecessary drags to create suspense. Good read, kinda slow but made me appreciate the perfection of fifty-fifty even more.

I was so glad to see it when this full series came on the kindle daily deal recently. I've read another couple of books from the series already but not the first. Eddie in this book is definitely more daring and takes chances with the law. It was high adrenaline throughout and it was great to see how the series started. I love that these books are all stand alone but also work together as a series.

How did this book get such high ratings? Maybe courtroom dramas just aren't my thing. I didn't enjoy the writing, the plot was wildly unbelievable, and the villains were cartoonish (they actually functioned as narrators, describing exactly what was happening and why-- you know, how criminal masterminds are usually so forthcoming and honest). 1 star, DNF.
