Controversial opinion, I wish I would have read this in high school so I could have had the lessons about the time period and the setting surrounding the events of this book. It is an amazing feat when a book is so timeless but so grounded in the present moment simultaneously. I really felt for Holden, and I found myself hoping he eventually finds some peace when he is older. He isn't very likeable but most people aren't at that age, and it is pretty clear that he is going through some sort of manic/depressive episode in this novel. His most redeeming quality is his love for his siblings, especially his sister Phoebe. Overall, I can tell why this is a classic, but I wouldn't read it again.

call me crazy, you don’t get it like it get it 💔
 it’s just about a kid that’s afraid of growing up. Mourning childhood, or nostalgia, is something all of us can’t grief.
I think some of the writing is a bit repetitive and Holden goes on these very long tangents, for good reasons but it goes on for a while. But other than that it was pretty good :) !!

Thought provoking but not really enjoyable for me. The character has a distinct voice that gets into your head (and to quote his sister, “stop cursing so much”)
I definitely looked up some study guides to help with analysis a little bit. This seems like it’d be fun in a lit class or book club but maybe not just for a fun read
