Such a fun installment in this bonkers series.  Love the inconvenient marriage and so much pining.

Fave book of the year as of July!!!!!

you know what? this was fun.

I can have a lot of difficulties with romances but India Holton is often self-aware and tongue-in-cheek enough to get me involved in the story anyway. This is my fourth book by her. I enjoyed #1 of her previous series but didn’t like #2 that much. I enjoyed #1 of this series fine, and so was worried a little the there would be a repeat of #2 but I think I liked it more than the first! Probably partly because of the tropes/set up. The marriage of convenience where both parties are secretly pining over the other but convinced that the other hates them was fun—though perhaps pushed a bit too far/for too long, especially when they keep refusing to believe that the other likes them after several proofs to the contrary—and while it’s an issue that could be solved with like, one conversation, I think Holton sets up her characters and how idiotic they are about each other/relationships well enough that it isn’t too much of an issues (she’s also self aware enough to acknowledge it in text!). I really liked the FMC and her intellect and bubbly personality, but didn’t care as much for the main plot. For once, I was more interested in the romance! It’s really silly in places and perhaps too cutesy/cheesy in others, but it was a nice change from what I had been reading and I genuinely enjoyed it.

Bonkers. The miscommunication was a bit overdone. But strangely it was still fun.

Yet, possums in the UK? In Wales?

Dear Elodie and Gabriel,

I think these have become an all time favorite of mine. They are cute, and sweet, but mostly it’s the incredible female characters.

They are clever and though face adversity and challenge they still thrive and stay true to themselves. The quirks and vulnerabilities are all so relatable. Elodie was absolutely wonderful.
And Gabriel- the love he had for her ❤️ I loved his POV.

This is pure quirky, clever, romance with so much magic is elevated the entertainment level.

Review Breakdown-
Characters: 5⭐️ You had me a smart, nerdy, overly excited about obscure things and Oxford. This cast was fun.
Setting: 5⭐️ more magical elements than anticipated and it got extremely tense there at the end. This was an incredibly well done regency story and the writing style supported the setting.
Plot: 5 ⭐️ tense and exciting at times. Great character development alongside saving the world.
Themes: 5⭐️ this did not become bogged down by character histories. The fun and lighthearted themes were entertaining and still felt meaningful.
I’m going to note the language and writing style here- that is a huge 5⭐️ for Holton! It brings so much atmosphere but keeps things whimsical and fun.
Emotional Impact: 5⭐️ 😂❤️🥰🫠🥺😭 everything! The magic and ridiculousness did not dampen the effects of Elodie and Gabriel’s relationship and journey.
Personal Enjoyment: 5⭐️ I’ve purchase my own copy for annotation.

I can’t recommend this series enough. It isn’t for everyone since the “science” and writing style could be too much for some. But this exactly my cup of tea!
