*I received an eARC of this book from Berkley via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. Thanks!*

This book was an absolute delight! I was immediately drawn to the book because of the title, having a geography degree myself, and it did not disappoint on the geography front or the romance front. I found Elodie and Gabriel to be such an endearing couple. Both so in love with the other yet so petrified by the idea of admitting it.

I appreciated the balance in the book between the romance and tension between Elodie and Gabriel, and also the mystery before them of where all the thaumaturgic magic is coming from. The descriptions of the magic were rich and beautiful and made me want to live in their magical, Victorian world.

I read the first book in this series just prior to this one and also loved it, and I look forward to the third! Holton is a master of yearning and low fantasy and I can't get enough!

This had India Holton's standard hilarious and witty writing and fun/sweet characters. The plot fell kind of flat to me though, and I think it was because of the lack of an actual human antagonist (and with no antagonistic relationship, or even really competitive relationship, between the two main characters). This may, in part, be because I can't visualize things but I didn't feel any real urgency to solve the issues with the thaumaturgic land until basically the end. So this would probably be a great one for many people, but for me it was just average.

This was an enjoyable quick read.  I couldn't help but compare it to the first book in this series, and by comparing it, I didn't like it as much.  Most of the magic is sparse in the beginning and the characters seem pretty flat for most of it.  It wasn't until pg. 278 that I felt truly sucked in and invested in the characters relationship and could really enjoy the magic of this world.  The last 50 pages were what I wanted the whole book to be.  I still really enjoyed reading it, I will still recommend this series, and I cannot wait for book 3.
