Original Read Date: 06/12/24 - 06/14/24
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.75
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Tropes: best friend's father, age gap, mafia, touch her and die
POV:  first person, dual pov

Plot: really good
Ending: twisty, but kind of saw it coming

Synopsis: Natalia's ex boyfriend has put a hit out on her so she goes to her best friend's father for protection. Little does she know that that protection means marriage to the head to the Marchetti crime family.

My opinion:

Pros: first, I really liked how there wasn't really and secrets in this book. A lot of times those tropes are brought out for conflict, but Natalia's best friend Gigi knew about her relationship with Cristian (for the most part) from the beginning. I really liked that even think Cristian was raised to have no real emotion he tried his best for his kids, but moreover he was willing to try for Natalia. Their dynamic of push and pull was great. She didn't back down and they both needed that. I also appreciated that while Gigi wasn't actively in this book, Natalia did have a friend though I would have liked them to interact more.

Cons:  I think my biggest holdback from giving this fully over to the 5 star rating is the number of times they mentioned Natalia being Cristian's daughter's best friend. I get it. It's an important trope in the book. However, very few other tropes that hold as much significance would be verbalized that frequently. Especially later in the book. It got to the point where I was rolling my eyes. Gigi, while great, wasn't an active part of this book so if anything it felt more like she was friends with her boyfriend's daughter to me.

Great Read

It was a great story, I really enjoyed the plot and the pace of the story. Was a quick read. I like the character relationships.

So I normally love age gab and mafia romance, However this book was not my favorite. The FMC goes to the most powerful crime family and begs for protection from the King himself due to her being his daughters best friend. She then proceeds to act like a child, he demands that she does what he says to make sure she is safe and she throws a fit everytime. Only because she does not like being told what to do, and is use to getting her way. The MMC was great to a point, as he had to be hard and calulating as he is the head of the crime family, however I would have thrown the FMC out of a moving car the way she pouted and acted. If the only way to get protection in the family was for her to marry in I would have liked her to marry the son or one of the body guards. I know that the son has his book coming out but it would have been interesting for his arranged marriage to be put to the side for the sake of the FMC. I am unsure of I will be reading the next book in the series.

“Look at my monster, growing a heart”

Charity writing mafia is everything my reader heart needed for 2023!

This was my first ever best friends dad age gap book and she sold it seamlessly. I listened to the audiobook and the narrators were also amazing with their performances and bringing the characters to life.

There was great angst, character dynamics and push/pull in the storyline and both characters were great as individuals, but perfect together. I loved that Christen didn’t soften up into a puddle of mush and remained a believable black hearted mafia man throughout the entirety of this book. I also loved that Natalia could hold her own against him and wasn’t afraid to challenge or sass him. She was both badass and soft in all the right areas for a heroine.

This was an unbelievable start to her mafia series and the ending of book one leveled up on unbelievable beginnings for book two of the series. I’m in a huge hangover and want my hands on book two….like yesterday.
