Very funny, very painful, very true. This is the perfect use of humor to address a horrific state of affairs. Hughley is able to tell truths in a way that expresses his clear anger and frustration with race relations while causing both laughter and deep thought. My only qualm about the contents of the book is that he made very short and unnecessary statements about how LGBT+ people have been treated throughout history and in the present and forgot two things: many LGBT+ people are also people of color, and that LGBT+ people have been jailed, killed, scapegoated, and terrorized by police and society at large just for being who they are.

I enjoyed this book. The comedic take on a serious issue was nice. I listned to the audiobook and D.L does a great delivery. I learned quite a few things that I didnt know and it gave me deeper insight into the black experience that I already have. I think that if crude language doesn't bother you that you should read this book. Education is key. Learning about racism, what isn't okay to say to bladk folk, and just how to stay safe is key in America. D.L did a wonderful job with this book.

Absolutely epic!!!!

It's really hard to explain and review this book. It is very funny but the underlying issue is heartbreaking. I was horrified and saddened by this book. But the worst part is that even though I am very conscious of racism, and do everything possible to stop it where and when I see it, I was very upset to learn that I didn't know as much as I needed to know. This book opened my eyes and I will be working even harder. All I can say is I'm Sorry.

Funny and sad at the same time.

The satire is surprisingly funny, but so real. It is more relatable because so many reoccurring instances of Black men getting murdered by police as well as other racist beings. The book is meant to be comedy, but it is so sad that the events in which D.L. Hughley discuss really happen and are continuing to happen today. Historically, the events have not evolved, the only difference is that it is now viral a lot sooner than it used to be. Pretty good read.

This has been on my shelf for a while so I shuffled it forward.  It's not quite two years old, and yet there are so many moments where I thought, man you don't know what's coming.  It's good satire and funny but still, of course, terribly depressing.  Absolutely on point, with some info I didn't know (mostly about football).  Maybe this is an approachable way to get up to speed on state violence, if for some reason you weren't already.
